The New York FOOTBALL Giants...

This is Super Bowl week and most years it is a "how hum" for me. But not this year because the Giants are in it again. How sweet!

I am a lifelong New Yawk (sic) FOOTBALL Giants fan. I used to be able to spout off the entire starting offensive and defensive lineups from the Charley Conerly/Sam Huff years. And I have not been a fair weather fan ... I well remember when the Giants had Joe Pisarcik as their quarterback and those were tough years. But the last five years, under head coach Tom Coughlin, have been memorable. The great thing is that Coughlin, after his playing career was over at Syracuse University, became the head coach of the fledgling football program at my alma mater, Rochester Institute of Technology. R.I.T. has long since dropped football and replaced it with Division 1 hockey, competing in the Frozen Four a couple of years ago.

One of the things that bothers me about the Giants, despite the fact that they have a bright, shiny new stadium in the Meadowlands is that the NEW YAWK GIANTS play not in NEW YAWK, but in NEW JOIZY. Shouldn't they technically be the New Jersey Giants?

That said, I like the fact that this year's big game is kind of a replay of the 2007 Super Bowl which BTW, the Giants won in exciting fashion over the New England Pats, spoiling the Patriots chance for a perfect season. I enjoy reminding my relatives in the Boston area of that fact every chance I get. I hope the tables are not turned this year because I am sure they are itching for a chance to rub it in if the Pats win this year.

One of my Giant faves is bone-crushing running back Brandon Jacobs. My sons actually bought me a Brandon Jacobs special game jersey, a red one, a few years ago and I plan to wear it to my Friday morning pre-Super Bowl weekend class. I hope the big guy, Brandon, is completely healthy and runs amok over the Pat's vaunted front defensive line.

Yup, this is a special year for Giants fans and I can't wait for the game to start.
